The Effort Oak Park Children's Dental Clinic, housed in The Effort Oak Park Community Health Center, was created to fill an urgent need for dental care for underserved children in the Sacramento area.
The pediatric dental clinic, which is partially funded by First 5 Sacramento, will offer fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings & major treatment and digital X-rays.
The clinic will also focus on educating and treating families on the importance of oral healthcare, with particular emphasis on infants, children, and young adults (up to 21) and pregnant women.
The clinic, designed to put young patients at ease in a warm and caring atmosphere, features safari-themed murals, video games in the lobby, stuffed animals, flat screen TVs showing movies above each chair in the exam room and free prizes to the kids.
"We all know that, historically, low income families have had difficulty accessing dental services, so this clinic for our underserved kids has been a long time coming." said Dr. Jonathan Porteus, "This project is the result of vision, support, and collaboration between the First 5 Commission, Sacramento County, and The Effort's Federally Qualified Health Center. The clinic is the first of four dental clinics The Effort is bringing to the region."
